CEO Dane Miller was joined by Nicholas McCurrach and fellow volunteer Benjamin while they visited Ukraine this summer on a trip to Zhytomyr. VfU sponsors an initiative in the small city, “YFEI x VFU: Dignity in Action”, which provides classes and mental health support to families with individuals who have disabilities.
They are the only group in the area offering this kind of support.
Nicholas, who has never visited before, had this to say:
“During our visit, we met volunteers, educators, community leaders, and participants who dedicate their time and energy to creating opportunities for others. We joined activities, shared conversations, exchanged perspectives, and learned more about the everyday work being done to strengthen local communities in Ukraine.
What stood out throughout the day was the warmth, openness, and dedication of everyone we met. Every conversation, activity, and shared moment reflected the importance of community and the impact people can have when they come together to support one another.
